Other Nicknames For The Amano Shrimp
The Amano shrimp (scientific name: caridina multidentata) is a type of freshwater shrimp that’s also known as the Yamato shrimp, Japanese shrimp, and algae shrimp.
They originated from native Japan and Taiwan, which also explains the reason why they were called the Japanese shrimp.
The Appearance
At first, I thought it was called the Japanese shrimp due to the creature’s appearance. Well – to be quite frank, the appearance of these shrimps is quite incredible.
So how do Amano shrimps really look like?
They are translucent in appearance and have reddish-brown dots of various sizes on their body.
How Amano Shrimps Were Introduced
These shrimps were first introduced in aquariums when people would use them to help clean and feed on algae. In the end, people from all over the world are keeping Amano shrimp for this same very reason.
Keeping Amano Shrimps As Pets
If you’re ever planning on keeping Amano shrimps as pets, one helpful suggestion is that you should keep your water temperature from 70 to 80 degrees.
For those of you who don’t know:
Amano shrimps are generally more active in higher temperatures, but it could also lessen their lifespan.
Future Amano shrimp owners are also recommended to keep their tank size at a minimum of 10 gallons.
Don’t forget – these are freshwater shrimps. Use the proper water!
